Fun. @ Idaho Botanical Gardens (8/28/13) + The Fair

I went to 4 concerts in the last 2 weeks. This post I will summarize the first two.

The first one was short so I didn’t think it deserved its own post. I saw Brantley Gilbert at the Western Idaho Fair…

I like country music… I mean, I like all kinds of music so country isn’t that bad. I knew about 4 of his songs. They were pretty good. But that crowd was definitely not my scene. The country people (whatever you call them) showed up in droves. I’ve never been to a country music concert and I think I know why now. It wasn’t really my thing. Also, as you can see in the pictures, we were way in the back on the bleachers- which is also not really my thing. Concerts are way better up close, but that particular day I was tired and didn’t really care.

The second concert was really fun. I mean, I saw the band fun. with special guests Tegan and Sara. This was at the Idaho Botanical Gardens.

The venue was a large outdoor area. It was close to 100 degrees when we got there, but gradually cooled off as the night went on. I had no idea what attending a concert at this venue would be like, but I was surprised when the majority of the crowd was middle-aged people who covered the spacious grass in lawn chairs and blankets. Thankfully, this meant that we didn’t get there too early and we still got great spots up near the front in the standing area.

Tegan and Sara were good openers. I don’t know their music but they had a good energy and it was fun. Their closing song “Closer”, was the only one I’d heard before, and it really rocked the place.

Me and Gabby, my friend who is as much of a fun. fan as I am:

Fun. (typing that period is starting to get so annoying) opened with the “Some Nights Intro”- an acoustic song with just Andrew on piano and Jack on guitar, in the corner of the stage:

Then it exploded into “One Foot”. From the second they walked on stage, there was an energy and excitement that never left. The crowd was ridiculously excited to be there and I was so happy to be a part of it. Every song was awesome- I was surprised by how good of a singer Nate was live- I was under the impression that he used a lot of autotune and recording tricks and therefore wouldn’t sound good live but I was wrong.

I think I’ve realized something about front men- they’re way more fun to watch and better at getting the crowd going if they’re not simultaneously playing an instrument. Nate was so energetic and excited to be performing.

I didn’t expect to enjoy this show as much as I did. They were SO good. The best song was when they came on for “Some Nights” in the encore (my favorite song of theirs). Although “Tonight We Are Young” was pretty rocking too. When “Tonight” came on everyone got quiet, then the drum part started, and everyone knew what it was and went wild. I don’t have much else to say except a lot of pictures 🙂 I picked only a couple of my favorites for this post.

20130828_212605So, I have a little bit of a crush on Andrew- the keyboard player over on the left (see below). Because he’s the cutest and he plays like every instrument but particularly the keys which is my instrument. Unfortunately, we were on the right side of the stage so I barely got any pictures of him.

Well, some nights I wish that this all would end
‘Cause I could use some friends for a change.
And some nights I’m scared you’ll forget me again
Some nights I always win, I always win…

but most nights I don’t know anymore.
