Ten Weekly Favorites (4)

I’ve made an official decision about the nature of “Ten Weekly Favorites”. It is no longer a weekly feature, despite the name. I’ve found its a little too difficult to come up with 10 new songs I genuinely love each week without just throwing ones I kind of like on the list. The name will be the same, but I will only post a new one when I have 10 great songs. So, I’m thinking about every other week! TLDR… nothing will change that much 🙂

1. Rebellion, Lies

Artist: Arcade Fire

Album: Funeral

Why: I’ve been loving Arcade Fire recently and this is my favorite song of theirs. It’s incredible and epic.

2. Step

Artist: Vampire Weekend

Album: Modern Vampires of the City

Why: This is one of those songs you hear once and fall in love with it. And then you listen to it over and over and over and over…. it’s a new favorite. Simply beautiful.

3. We Don’t Gotta Work It Out

Artist: Fitz and the Tantrums

Album: Picking Up The Pieces

Why: Oh this group is so good! Different than a lot of the other indie rock type stuff I listen too- it’s more soul/motown mixed with indie pop. It’s awesome.

4. Acquiesce

Artist: Oasis

Album: The Masterplan

Why: Truly great music from Oasis. (How was this a B-side?! It’s about 100x better than Some Might Say, at least in my opinion.) I love Liam and Noel’s trading off of the vocals- it fits so well with the lyrics of the song as well. Also I like this live version, look at that crowd. I wish I could go back to 1997 sometimes- provided I was the age I was now instead of age 3.

5. Follow Me

Artist: Muse

Album: The 2nd Law

Why: Concert Countdown- 98 Days! Also, I love how different this track is. It gets me pumped up and its so upbeat, musically and lyrically.

6. Love Is A Laserquest

Artist: Arctic Monkeys

Album: Suck It And See

Why: This song is gorgeous. And Alex Turner is beautiful. And I am still wishing I could relive that concert.

7. Of Birds, Moons, and Monsters

Artist: MGMT

Album: Oracular Spectacular

Why: This song is one of my favorites from their first album. Concert in 83 days! What, I’m going to see MGMT? I haven’t posted about that yet… I’m planning a mass concert announcement of all the concerts I’m going to this summer. But this is one of them. Already got tickets.

8. Where The White Boys Dance

Artist: The Killers

Album: Sawdust

Why: I unfairly judged this song after I first heard it, saying that the hook was annoying. I gave it another few listens and I’m obsessed. “We’re gonna go and change somebody’s world” sends chills down my spine. So good.

9. Wake Up

Album: Megalithic Symphony

Why: If you haven’t listened to this album… go do it. There’s not a bad song on here. It’s all so amazing and has so much energy!

10. Live Forever

Artist: Oasis

Album: Definitely Maybe

Why: I listen to this song on a a daily basis. I couldn’t believe when I realized I hadn’t included it on any 10 Weekly Favorites yet. It’s one of my all time favorites. It’s just so uplifting. Also, I definitely just realized that this song was released in August 1994 along with the album Definitely Maybe. That means it’s older than me (by just a couple of months). Wow.
